Select Specialty Hospital - Central Pennsylvania (York Campus) combines the specialized expertise of a large hospital with the personalized attention of a smaller setting. Occasionally, patients in the hospital have a need for a longer acute care stay due to their illness, multiple injuries, trauma, or medical complications. The unique medical needs of these types of patients require more intensive, focused hospital care for optimal recovery. Select Specialty Hospitals are designed specifically to meet the needs of these types of extended acute care patients. Select Specialty Hospital - York's Pulmonary Program is headed up by Dr. Lee Maddox, Pulmonary Program Director and Paula Caldwell, LRT. Dr. Maddox and Paula, in conjunction with our Medical Director, Dr. Richard Evans, are responsible for managing and maintaining the integrity of our aggressive Pulmonary Program. The success of our ventilator patients can be attributed to aggressive pulmonary driven weaning protocols and weekly wean team rounds that include the physician, Respiratory Therapist, nursing, dietary and rehabilitation staff.
We are equally proud of our Complex Wound Care Program that is directed by Dr. Jonathan Rhoads and Cathy Markley, RN, WOCN. This team provides complex care for complex wounds. Cathy states that "The Wound Care Program at Select Specialty Hospital features a comprehensive team approach that provides the best opportunity for healing and improvement. As a long-term acute care hospital, Select Specialty is designed to provide a longer acute care hospitalization to promote the healing and recovery among patients with complex and coexisting conditions. Since treatment can be long and difficult, and success depends on many factors, we constantly evaluate our program with the goal of finding opportunities to improve our treatment protocols. The success stories celebrated by our staff with their patients and their patients' families continue to serve as the motivation and inspiration for our clinical team to meet the needs of this special patient population." Each patient is also assigned a case manager who will guide their case from admission through discharge. The case manager is available to answer questions, assist with insurance and to plan a safe, timely and appropriate discharge. Select Specialty Hospitals are Medicare certified and JCAHO accredited. We participate with most major health insurers. |
