Occasionally, patients in the hospital have a need for a longer acute care stay due to their illness, multiple injuries, trauma, or medical complications. The unique medical needs of these types of patients require more intensive, focused hospital care for optimal recovery. Each patient is also assigned a case manager who will guide their case from admission through discharge. The case manager is available to answer questions, assist with insurance and to plan a safe, timely and appropriate discharge. | Our Admissions Coordinator will process your referrals to Select Long Term Care Hospital - Colorado Springs quickly and efficiently. An on-site evaluation of the patient will be completed by a Clinical Liaison within hours of the referral. The Clinical Liaison is your personal contact to Select Long Term Care Hospital. They will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the services we provide. Once an admission decision has been determined, the patient can often transfer the same day. A patient came to us with a diagnosis of respiratory failure, and was on a ventilator with a tracheotomy. This patient was septic from severe infection, and was in acute renal failure with severe lymphedema and required dialysis. At the time of discharge, three weeks later, the patient was off the ventilator, the tracheotomy was removed, and they no longer required antibiotics or dialysis. The bilateral leg swelling had returned to almost normal. The patient was strong enough to go to an acute rehabilitation after the care which was received at Select Long Term Care Hospital - Colorado Springs.

Dr. John Speer was a high school graduate here at Colorado Springs. Dr. Speer did his rediscency at Albany Medical Center, New York. He was also a Major in the United States Army Medical Corps.
Dr. Speer has many years experience and extensive research in oncology. He had his own private practice for eight years in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics.
Dr. Speer has been an active staff member Select Long Term Care Hospital - Colorado Springs since 2002 and became our Medical Director in 2003. We are proud to have Dr. Speer on our staff. |
